Hans Terhürne

Seavus DropMind is a new and very interesting mind mapper. I worked with the beta versions for desktop and the web to get a first impression and I didn’t have any problems.

The layout of the desktop version as well as the navigation reminds me of MindManager, although with much more limited functions than its big brother. DropMind can only import MindManager files, not other formats so far. Exporting can currently be done to .pdf and .jpg. DropMind has the necessary folder styles and templates with which a basic mind map can quickly be made. Then, backgrounds, colours, relations, images and other things can be changed and added. As well, links can be placed in e-mail addresses, websites and files, and notes can be added per item.

The web version of Seavus DropMind, which uses Microsoft® Silverlight™ technology, can of course import the results of the desktop version, but also of MindManager and Freemind. Exporting to the DropMind desktop version can be done as .rtf and as an image. With the web version, the mind map can be shared with others – within one’s organisation, but also beyond it.

The web application has version control, relations between the items, notes, hyperlinks and the necessary layout possibilities. There is a built-in chat function (GTalk) and the possibility of creating a presentation, as the Microsoft® Silverlight™ technology does not only look good, it also offers an intuitive interface!

I am curious as to the extras that Seavus still has to implement. The prices will be made known at the end of the beta period.

The service is very well set up: a question about installation problems on a second PC was answered clearly within 10 minutes, while it was past 6 pm!

Here are the most important points:

Microsoft® Silverlight™ technology for the web application

Intuitive interface

Clear, four sphere multicoloured folder layout

Combination of web application and a desktop version

Google and Delicious include the content in their search activities, which includes Flickr and Live images

Chat using GTalk in the web version

Visit the Seavus Dropmind website for more information.
