MindManager for Mac tip and tricks

In addition to our MindManager for Mac review we have selected a couple of tips and tricks for Mac users you to become a true Hypershifter with MindManager 7 for the Mac. First of all Mindjet implemented some useful shortcuts in MindManager in order to create a mindmapping more fluently. Using short cuts is useful for the creator to keep its attention on the mindmap instead of on the software.  Below are some easy short cuts:

To create a new Maintopic just press  ↩

To create a sub-topic ⌘ ↩

To create a topic before ⇧ ↩

To create a new parent topic   ⇧⌘ ↩

As soon as you mastered these shortcuts you will notice an efficiency improvement during mindmapping!  With the ‘Outliner view’ one can create an overview of floating topics in the MindManager field. The mindmapview changes into a linear approach of one’s information. It is divided in sub-topics but all from left to right without any visualization. This is beneficial during brainstorm sessions where one wants to type many keywords. Afterwards one can cluster those keywords.

There is also a possibility to set up some “rules” for the map. This allows the user to only see the items which you choose to see.

mmmPimping a mindmap with colors and styles that suits your needs or company identity will take some extra time. Most of the time mindmappers will ‘pimp’ their mindmaps when the content is ready. It will save up time if you will define and configure a style template. This template can be used over and over again. You can make your newly designed template as default template for every mindmap you create. Using templates saves time and leaves important time for putting together your mindmap.

Set the color and form at every level of topics, so Main, Subtopics and their Subtopics. Once you have set the settings, go to “Format” and “Set as Default Format”. You can export these settings into a style file, which you can import in to a MindManager file, even on another Mac or PC.    As a company you can add your own images to the library to complete your branding. Just add your own images in:

Library/Application Support/Mindjet/MindManager/7/[Language you’ve installed]/Library/Image

The same hold for adding backgrounds or icons into your library.   Well that’s it, some tips and tricks to be more efficient in using MindManager for Mac.
If you got some tips yourself please be so kind to share them with us in a comment.
